A financial crisis can happen to anyone. These challenges are often due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a job loss or illness. New Jersey SHARES provides relief to people, who are not eligible for other types of assistance.

New Jersey Statewide Heating Assistance and Referral for Energy Services (New Jersey SHARES) is a non-profit organization charged with a mission to provide assistance to individuals and families living in New Jersey who are in need of temporary help in paying their energy bills.

The EITC is a special Federal/State program developed for working poor families and single individuals to help make ends meet, and in some cases get ahead.  If you worked in 2009, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit refund!  Check the table below to see if you qualify for the EITC refund.   DO NOT PAY a company to file your tax return.  Filing is FREE in Mercer County.  Local tax experts at VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will help you file taxes and EITC forms.  To find a Free VITA tax expert in your neighborhood….call 211!

STAND UP AND BE COUNTED

 

      Beginning March 2010 a Census question form will be mailed to every residence in the United States and Puerto Rico.  When you receive yours, just answer the 10 short questions and then mail the form back in the postage-paid envelope provided. 

 

      Federal Law protects your Identity and the information you give to the Census Bureau.  The Census DOES NOT ask for your legal status or your social security number.  Private information is never published.  It is against the law to publish names, social security numbers, addresses and telephone numbers received by the Census Bureau. 

 

      The 2010 Census results will help citizens in your community and throughout America receive more than $400 billion in Federal Funds for things like; Emergency Services, Hospitals, Schools, Senior Centers, Job Training Centers and more!  That’s why it is so important that you fill in the 2010 Census question form and mail it back.  For more services and a brighter tomorrow “Stand up and be Counted” take 10 minutes and complete the 10 easy questions.
