Lartigue 2010 Community S.W.O.T. Analysis - Downtown Revitalization

On Saturday, February 13, Lartigue 2010 held its second community roundtable at the Trenton Marriott at Lafayette Yards.  Each of the five committees conducted an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) associated with their respective areas of Trenton's overall civic, social and economic health.

The next roundtable will be held on Saturday, March 6, from 11am until 1pm at the Marriott and each committee will follow up their SWOT analysis by establishing the mission, goals and objectives to address key issues (Action Plan). Lartigue 2010 SWOT Analysis - Downtown Revitalization

STRENGTHS

* Centrally Located in New Jersey relative to NYC &

  Philadelphia

* Access to Public Transportation and Highways

* River and the Waterfront close to Downtown

* Architecture, Art, History

WEAKNESSES

* Parking is tough during weekdays

* Perception of Security problems at night

* Lack of attractions or other reasons for City residents to come

  downtown

* Trenton's downtown has no commercial core or magnet, other

  than the State.

OPPORTUNITIES

* Extension of the River Line from the Transit Center could

revitalize downtown in the evening hours and on weekends

* ""Live where you Work"" Programs could bring in residents

* Riverfront revitalization (Boulevard, state park, etc.) will spill

   over into Downtown

* MCCC Kerney Campus could expand presence in the area -

   culturally, community events, etc.

* Build upon the great "Walkability" reputation of the area

* Expanding evening hours of public transportation might

encourage people in surrounding towns to come in evenings

  and weekends

THREATS

* State buildings often have their own cafeterias and

convenience stores, taking business away from local

   merchants

* The Transit-Oriented-Development plans for the Transit Center area could draw capital, attention away from downtown
